Local hot spots

Jungfraujoch, Lauterbrunnen Valley, Grindelwald, Grindelwald First,

These are the most visited tourist places in the interlaken.
First of all as a Local Guide company, we don’t offer just guided hiking tours, but we can plan and accompany you on any of these to make sure that your experience will be as smooth as possible.
Here are some things you can expect if you plan to visit any of these.

Jungfraujoch

is the busiest train ride in Switzerland. The highest train station in Europe can accommodate 1 million people throughout the whole year. Most of the people are coming in the summer season. Simply in the high season it is very hard to avoid crowds. The only thing which might help you avoid the crowds is to buy an early morning ticket. By the time crowds are coming up, you are already on your way down.
It is a beautiful experience. You will get very high up with the train ride, get awesome views and will see many glaciers from close by, but it is also very costly. If there are clouds or a bad weather day it does not really make sense to go up. When the weather forecast says a few cloudy days and after that sunny day coming up, make sure you buy your ticket in advance otherwise you end up not going, there is a limited amount of trains coming up and that means on nice weather days in summer it’s often sold out.
Another good tip is that you can do a roundtrip to get to Jungfraujoch. This means that you can come up from the Grindelwald side and come back down from the Lauterbrunnen side; that way you will get most from the whole trip. It is a little bit slower in terms of travel time than just going up from Grindelwald and coming the same way back but it is also more view rewarding.
It’s important that you keep in mind that you will spend most of your day in public transport. If you are planning to come up from Interlaken, One way up is approx 1:45 this means you find everything and catch every connection perfectly. Double that and you are easily in 3,5 hours in the train or cable cars.

Lauterbrunnen valley- Valley of 72 Waterfalls

One of the most spectacular valleys in the world. Definitely one of those things you should visit even though it is crowded. As the name suggests there are many waterfalls:).
Once you reach Lauterbrunnen village you will be greeted by the majestic Staubbach waterfall. This is the famous viral instagram view and reason for the popularity.
There are many options on how to see the whole valley, no matter what you choose make sure that you visit Trummelbach Waterfalls-Waterfalls inside the mountain. There is an entrance fee around 13 francs and in high season there might be a 10-20 min waiting time to enter but it is worth it.
Our suggestion is to visit by train. The ride from Interlaken is around 20 minutes and the train might be crowded, but it’s much more efficient than a car. Nowadays you very easily end up in traffic jams and parking is a nightmare. Same story as always: the earlier bird gets the worm.

Grindelwald

Not from Harry Potter 🙂
Small beautiful town sitting under the majestic foot of eiger. The village itself is fairly big and spread out but the centre is small and crowded. Everybody is aiming for one of the cable cars. One will take you to the Eiger Gletscher which is part of the way to the Jungfraujoch.
The other one is the Grindelwald-First cable car which will take you up to Gridelwald-First and from there you can get to the beautiful Bachalpsee (lake). One thing to do here on your way back is that instead of taking the cable car down you can zipline go-kart and scoot downhill.
Overall very fun experience but as everything else very popular. Same story as for most of the attractions earlier you get a better experience you will have. Bottle neck is right in the village because the cable car which takes you up is slow and small. So there will be a big queue almost every nice day during summer. If you plan to do any adventure activity on your way down, brace yourself with patience because the queue is just getting bigger through the day. Unfortunately there are no ways around it. There is a similar hidden experience but this one we keep for ourselves:)
